Explore U.S. Army history inside the National Museum of the United States Army and enjoy special outdoor activities on Warriors’ Field, with performances by the United States Army Field Band, Army vehicle and equipment displays, an aerial parachute demonstration, inflatable bounce houses, gaming activities and much more!

Your free reserved ticket includes activities for visitors of all ages. Food and beverages will be for sale from outdoor food trucks and the indoor Museum Café. Army Birthday cupcakes and a 2024 Festival souvenir will be available to visitors in limited quantities.

Schedule of Events

In addition to festival activities and musical entertainment offered throughout the day, several featured events are planned and included in your free admission.

Shuttle buses operate throughout the day from the Defense Logistics Agency (the designated event parking for the Museum Campus) to the museum from 8:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The last shuttle bus departs the museum at 6 p.m., returning patrons to DLA parking.

Museum hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The virtual reality activities in the museum’s Army Action Center are open with free admission for the Army Birthday Festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Learn more here.

Parking and Shuttle Bus Service

DLA Special Event Parking

The DLA special event parking area address is:

8725 John J Kingman Road; Fort Belvoir, VA 22060.


On June 15, visitors to the Museum and the Festival will park in the event parking area offered at the nearby Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and enjoy free shuttle buses to the Museum Campus. Shuttles will begin running at approximately 8:45 a.m. and run continuously with the last bus leaving the Museum Campus at approximately 6 p.m. This special event parking area is open to the public – Fort Belvoir access identification is not required. The trip from event parking to the Museum Campus is approximately five minutes. Shuttle buses with lifts will be available for riders who do not want to use bus steps. This parking area will be monitored throughout the day.

Visitors traveling by ride share may drive directly to the Museum and should use the National Museum of the United States Army address (1775 Liberty Dr, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060).

The main ADA parking area is at the DLA event parking area. Visitors with mobility needs may use the Museum drop-off loop and then proceed to park at the DLA parking lot. Please note the passenger drop off area is the closest location to the entrance and the same drop-off location for shuttle bus passengers. A limited number of handicapped/accessible parking spaces will be available at the Museum for visitors with a state-issued tag.


Security

Visitors will process through a security screening system similar to airport passenger security screening and all bags are subject to search. Please do not bring nonessential items or bags. For essential bags, please limit the size to no larger than 22” x 14” x 9” (a standard backpack).

Political activity is prohibited.


Prohibited Items

  • Portable chairs and coolers.
  • Food and drink, including gum, are prohibited. However, sealed water bottles, empty water bottles, baby milk and formula, toddler food and food needed for visitors with dietary restrictions (e.g., halal, kosher, or for medical reasons) are permitted.
  • Firearms and ammunition; real or replica. Federal law enforcement officers are authorized to carry at all times; local law enforcement may only carry while on official business.
  • Knives, pocketknives, razors, box cutters or any other sort of blade or pointed object.
  • Weapons, including clubs, brass knuckles, hammers, martial arts weapons, stun guns, and others.
  • Tobacco, e-cigarettes, vapes vaping products, smokeless tobacco and nicotine, illegal drugs, marijuana, or drug paraphernalia.

Where is the Army Birthday Festival?

Do I need a CAC (Common Access Card) or special clearance to attend the Festival or to enter the Museum?

No. The Museum and the Festival are open to the public and no special ID or clearance are required to attend. The Museum Campus is located on a publicly accessible area of Fort Belvoir.

Are tickets required?

Yes. FREE tickets are required. Advance ticket reservations are recommended. The availability of “walk-up” tickets the day of the event cannot be guaranteed. Begin your FREE ticket reservation here.

Is the Museum open during the Festival?

Yes. The Museum is open with FREE ticketed admission from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Is there an admission fee for the Festival or for the Museum?

No. Admission to the Museum and to the Festival are FREE.

Is there a charge/fee for any of the Festival activities?

No. All Festival activities and performances are FREE. Food and beverages will be for sale on-site.

Does my registration include BOTH admission to the Museum and the Festival?

Yes. Your registration includes FREE admission to both the Museum and to the Festival.

What activities and events are part of the Festival?

Musical performances, gaming activities, U.S. Army demonstrations, inflatable bounce houses and more.

What food and beverages are available?

Food, soft drinks, and wine/beer will be available for sale from outdoor food trucks and the indoor Museum Café. The Food Trucks will accept credit cards only. The Museum Café will accept cash and credit card payments. Visitors may not bring their own food or drinks onto the Museum Campus. Factory sealed, or refillable, water bottles and infant formula are permitted. Food and beverages will be limited to designated areas.

Is the Festival a “rain or shine” event?

The Museum will be open rain or shine. Some Festival activities could be impacted by inclement weather.

When will weather decisions be made? How will weather decisions be communicated?

A weather decision will be made on or about Thursday, June 13. An email will be sent to all ticket holders. Festival updates will also be posted on this website and the Museum website, www.theNMUSA.org. Will there be information booths/visitor services at the Festival?

Yes. On-site information booths and customer relations support will be available inside the Museum and outside at the Festival.

Parking and Transportation

Where do I park to visit the Museum or attend the Festival?

Parking at the Museum is limited to handicapped/accessible parking only with a state issued tag. Visitors should park in the event parking offered at the nearby Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and enjoy free bus shuttles to the Museum Campus. Shuttles will begin running at approximately 8:45 a.m. and run continuously with the last bus leaving the Museum Campus at approximately 6 p.m. The trip from event parking to the Museum Campus is approximately 5 minutes. The shuttle buses have lifts for riders who do not want to use stairs.

Where will I find accessible/handicapped parking?

Is there a fee to ride the shuttle buses?

Approximately five minutes one way.

Is visitor parking available in the Museum parking lot?

No. The Museum parking lot is being used to support Museum and Festival operations. The Museum parking lot will offer a limited number of handicapped/accessible parking with a state issued tag.

Is bus passenger drop-off and bus parking available?

Yes. Commercial tour buses and the Fairfax Connector may drop off passengers at the designated stop at the Museum and then park. Limited bus parking is available at the Museum.

May I drop off my passengers and then go park at the event parking lot?

Yes. Drop off at the Museum is limited to drivers dropping off individuals with mobility limitations. After drop off, drivers will be redirected to park at the DLA parking lot.

Can I take a ride share to the Museum Campus? Where is the drop off and pick up point?

Yes. Visitors traveling by ride share should use the Museum Campus address: 1775 Liberty Drive, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060.

Is public transportation available to the Museum and Festival?

Public transportation is available to the Museum Campus and Festival. The Fairfax Connector bus stop will be open for passenger drop off and pick up according to the Connector weekend schedule. Visit the Museum’s website herefor more public transportation information.

Will the event parking lot and parking shuttles be running if the outdoor events are canceled due to weather?

Yes. The event parking and shuttle buses will be operating throughout the day if the outdoor events are canceled.

Can I bring my dog/my pet?

All pets and animals are prohibited on the Museum Campus. Service animals, and service animals in training, who are specifically trained to assist a person with a disability are welcome in all of the Museum’s public spaces. Emotional support animals are not permitted in the Museum.

What accommodations are available for ADA?
